The Windham Garden Club’s April meeting will be Thursday, April 17, 7:00pm at the Windham Town Hall. This is an open meeting and all are invited to attend. Join us as our speaker, Windham resident Chuck Crisler, presents the informative program “Getting Started with Orchids.” Chuck will tell us about the world of orchids, including types of orchids, where to find them, and how to care for them. He has grown orchids for 45 years, and has many beautiful, large and showy orchids.
Chuck was awarded the Orchid Digest Diamond Award as a long-time member whose commitment helped build the society. He represented the NH Orchid Society at New England orchid shows for many years. He has also provided his plants for other annual events such as The Holiday House Tour and cultivated relationships with many expert orchid growers. He held every position on the NH Orchid Society’s Board of Directors. As president, he established new and updated existing policies that are still active. For several years Chuck served as Vendor/Exhibitor Liaison for the annual show, finding the right balance of plant vendors to satisfy both the hobbyist and expert growers and organizing other societies and individuals for exhibits. One of Chuck’s orchids was awarded an Award of Merit for flower quality and seven of his plants have been awarded Certificate of Cultural Merit for excellent cultivation. He has won several Best in Show awards for different specific types of orchids at multiple shows and the overall Best in Show three times.
