The Windham Garden Club Plant sale will be held on Saturday, May 17th. Frequent questions we receive from plant sale customers are about plants that are deer and/or rabbit resistant. Also, many people are interested in native plants. Native plants are those that occur within their natural range, ecosystem, and habitat without human introduction. The table below shows our perennial plant sale inventory for this year’s plant sale and indicates whether it is a native plant and deer and/or rabbit resistant. Please note this may not be a complete inventory of all our plants.

We need to remember that there’s no such thing as deer-proof or rabbit-proof plants, only deer or rabbit resistant plants. The plants listed are generally resistant but are not guaranteed to be deer and rabbit proof. If we have a particularly harsh winter, food is scarce, or the creature is adventurous, they will try anything. By planting deer-resistant or rabbit-proof plants, however, you can at least increase the odds that the hungry animals will browse elsewhere.
